Nikki Ross Bellamy Obituary: Popular Houston Gospel Community Mourns Celebrated Singer at 54

The Houston gospel music community is mourning the death of Nikki Ross Bellamy, a celebrated vocalist whose powerful voice and musical ministry made her a respected figure both in Houston and across the national gospel scene. Bellamy died on August 14, 2026, at the age of 54, according to reports from gospel music publications.

Her death was announced by New Jerusalem Churches of Sound Doctrine, where Bellamy was a longtime member. The church remembered her not only for her extraordinary musical ability but also for the heart and devotion she brought to her church family.

For decades, Bellamy was a familiar and influential voice in gospel music. She worked with prominent artists including Kirk Franklin, Ricky Dillard & New G, James Fortune & FIYA, The Walls Group, Rodnie Bryant & CCMC and Jonathan Nelson. Her recordings included songs such as “He’s Been Just That Good,” “There Is No Way,” “I Surrender All,” “Make A Sound” and “Yes.”

Her musical career extended beyond studio recordings. Bellamy was also involved with Houston’s gospel music scene, worked on the music staff for BET’s Sunday Best and appeared alongside artists including Israel Houghton, PJ Morton and Aaron Lindsay on “Sunday Kinda Love,” which was featured on the soundtrack for I’m in Love with a Church Girl.

Bellamy also pursued her own music, releasing solo material including “God Is Able.” She continued performing and recording despite facing health challenges in recent years. Her final public performance reportedly came at the Gospel Music Workshop of America Convention in July, shortly before her death.

News of her passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from fellow gospel artists, musicians, friends and admirers. Tributes have described Bellamy as a remarkable vocalist whose talent and presence left an enduring impression on those who worked with her and heard her sing.

Bellamy is survived by her husband, Ty Bellamy, their children, family members, friends and a wide circle of people touched by her music and ministry. Funeral and memorial arrangements were still forthcoming in the latest reports.

For the Houston gospel community, Nikki Ross Bellamy’s passing represents the loss of a distinctive voice and a devoted servant whose influence extended well beyond the stage. Her recordings, performances and years of ministry will remain part of the musical legacy she leaves behind.
